{HMW} What If You Could Do MORE of What You Want, Every Day?🔥

Dear Reader,

How much of your day is spent doing what you need to do versus what you want to do?

Chances are, it’s pretty skewed.

Most of us are consumed by the daily grind—laundry, school drop-offs, commuting to work—with much less time for the things we actually enjoy.

If I had a 100% “want” day, it would include a yoga class, a delicious vegan lunch (made by someone else, of course), and an afternoon filled with spa treatments, music, and time with my favorite people.

The daily grind can feel soulless, even draining, leaving many of us resentful, stressed, and dissatisfied. This low-level stress builds up over time, leading to inflammation, stress eating, fatigue, and weakened immunity.

While 100% “want” days are rare, what if we could shift the ratio a little? How might that impact your mood, how you show up in the world, or how you handle stress?

By just adding more “wants” to your day, even in small ways, without guilt we can feel happier and more fulfilled. When we’re aligned with what brings us joy, we’re better equipped to handle the mundane.

For example, I hate doing dishes—it feels endless. But I love music, so now I blast my favorite Spotify mix while I clean. It’s a small shift, but it makes the task more tolerable.

What are some things that light you up?

If you hate your commute, try audiobooks or podcasts. Dread running errands? Call a friend between stops.

Make a list of things that bring you joy, big or small. When I work with clients, I ask them to make an ongoing "Sizzle List" that are small things that add joy their days. It could be spending time with your kids, watching a movie, feeling your feet in wet sand, or admiring a Fall leaf.

Then, add 1-2 of those things to your day. The more you do this, the more you’ll notice and appreciate the good, even amidst the chaos.

We can’t always escape the grind, but we can shift our perspective—and maybe blast some great music while doing it.

Dear Reader, Ever notice how the pull of instant gratification—like grabbing that bag of chips when you’re stressed or eating ice cream after a long day—feels impossible to resist? That’s limbic friction at work. Your limbic system is the brain’s emotional center, driving automatic behaviors (aka System 1 thinking). It’s fast and instinctive, but when it comes to building sustainable food habits, this friction can derail us from our goals. Limbic friction is the mental tug-of-war between what...
